Proud Poppa Bo

Here is a picture of Poppa Bo with the youngest Foul BALL fan.

Foul Balls turn worse as they get beat by Beer Drinkers Gone Bad

The Balls were heading into game 5 with a losing record of 1-3
As was the team that they would be facing this week. Beer Drinkers
Gone Bad. On paper it was a pretty good match up, actually in the BALLS favor.
According to the VEGAS odds the BALLS were favored to win 2:1
even though they were in a slump like no other in franchise history.
All they would need to do is keep the defense going as they had been
Just need to start hitting the ball harder and not directly at the
opposing teams glove like majority have done the past few weeks.
The BALLS were hoping with the return of Spinx into the lineup
that it would be just what the BALLS needed to get back on track.
With only the absence of Sheets who was still on vacation the balls
were in full effect taking to the dugout with 11 guys
and a pocketful of chocolate espresso biscotti.
The BALLS won the coin toss and took to the field first so they
could have the home field advantage and last licks if it came down to it.
THE BALLS got things done defensively in the first inning by only
giving up a single run to start off the game.
Heading into the bottom half the BALLS were feeling good and ready to attack
Skip was changing things up and put Bo in the lead off spot with the
hopes that his aggressiveness would get things started for the BALLS.
it appeared to be a great move by SKIP when BO ripped a single hard to the outfield
to get on base and get things going.
On back to back errors, both Clue and Breitenbach were able to get on base and
bring BO home to tie up the game at 1 a piece with only 1 out.
At his first plate appearance back from a 2 week vacation Spinx kept things rolling
with a ripped single followed by a walk from SKIP
Next up Mike Mo, who hit the ball hard but was well played by the defense to get an out.
Socal followed the play up with a ripped single down the left field line.
After all was said and done in the inning the BALLS were heading into the 2nd
with a lead of 4-1 which is something they have not had in awhile.
Looking to maintain the solid D the BALLS took to the field
The next inning was not what the BALLS were looking for at all
Beer Drinkers kept hitting the ball hard and right where there were no BALLS.
which is a recipe for disaster in D rec softball.
The opposing team was able to put up 8 runs on the frame bring their current total to 9
In the 2nd inning, with the exception of Bo with his 2nd single , the BALLS
were a quick up and down and left a goose egg for their 2nd inning.
So if you are keeping track at home after 2 innings the BALLS lost their lead
and were now down 9-4 heading into the 3rd inning of battle.
Beer Drinkers got things started off against the BALLS with a lead off triple
However, The BALLs bounced back quickly retiring the
next 3 batters consecutively only giving up 1 run for the inning heading into the bottom.
In the BALLS half of the 3rd Skip was able to reach base on a fielding error by the other team
with back to back hits from Beardo and Socal they were able to bring Skip in
but it would be all the BALLS could do offensively for the 3rd inning
So after 3 complete innings of play the BALLS were down 10-5
With the game still in reach the BALLS took the field for the 4th time of the night
Coming off a good 3rd the BALLS kept rolling making quick work of the Beer Drinkers in the 4th
with a quick 4 up and 3 down, giving up just a single in the inning.
In the bottom half Mueller got things started off with a ripped single up the middle
unfortunately the BALLS couldn't bring him home and were a quick 3 outs following the hit.
So after 4 the BALLS were still down 10-5
It looked like the BALLS D was going to keep rolling with 2 excellent fielding plays
for 2 quick outs. The following batter was the last of the line up and ripped a
2 out triple to get a rally going. The next batter was walked on some close pitches.
Followed up by a string of hits including a base clearing triple they were able to put up another 4
runs against the BALLS bringing the BEER Drinkers run total to 11 heading into the BALLS bottom half.
Seemed that the rough top of the inning was on the BALLS minds heading into their chance to do something
They were a quick 3 up and 3 down on some well hit balls to the outfield but unable to generate anything for the inning.
Heading into the 6th the BALLS knew that they needed some strong defense to stop the bleeding
Beer Drinkers were looking to put up some insurance runs before allowing the BALLS to get their chance,
they did just that by putting up another 4 runs by just hitting singles in areas of the field that were BALL less.
So heading into the bottom of the 6th inning the BALLS were well aware of the obstacle that laid ahead.
They have been able to put a grip of runs together, but this time they would need 13 just to tie the game
They were down 18-5 heading into their last opportunity to pull the game out.
BALLS were confident with Spinx leading things off, he came through with a ripped single
to get a base runner on with no outs and heavy hitter SKIP coming to the plate.
They were unable to make anything happen with back to back grounders well played by the infield 2 put 2 outs on the board.
With Socal stepping to the plate who was already 2 for 2 on the day they were feeling an extension to their 6th inning life.
However, he was unable to come through with a pop up to left field to end the game
So the BALLS lost the game 18-5 bringing their record to a not so impressive 1-4 heading into week 6

"I remember a heads up defensive play from Spinx at 3rd base, after fielding a well hit ball
instead of going to 1st with it, he got the runner at 3rd in a run down and along with
the help of Mr. Davis were able to get the lead runner out and avoid another run on the board. Not bad for a guy who has been doing nothing but sipping on RumCreme in paradise the past 2 weeks."
Socal

"Too many golf swings for a softball game"

The BALLS in Paradise.

So for the celebration of our very own LeonSpinx tying the knot
with his long time girlfriend Carisma in beautiful South Florida. Some of
the BALLS were able to make the trip down and celebrate the big day with
the wonderful couple. Here are some pics from the weekend.
CONGRATS to the couple for it was a wonderful wedding and weekend !

The BALLS get WACKED by the GOODFELLAS

Heading into the 4th game of the season the BALLS had winning in mind.
After winning the season opener against Scotch and than losing the next 2 games
the BALLS were in need of a W to help get the wind behind their sails.
They would be heading into the game down 3 balls.
LeonSpinx is still in Jamaica on the honeymoon
Breitenbach had school to attend, and
Sheetser is off to Costa Rica for 2 weeks on what sounds like a fun filled vacation.
Even proud new Pappa Bo was going to be able to make the game.
so heading into the game the BALLS were 9 in total.
Scojo was able to get a buddy to step up and fill in to complete the 10 man roster.
So with a full squad the BALLS headed into the game with a losing record of 1-2
The Balls lost the coin toss and grabbed thier bats first as the visiting team.
Unable to string together some hits the balls we shutout in the first inning
In the bottom half the BALLS gave up 4 runs, not on bad fielding,
the other team was just hitting the ball well, and in the gaps.
in the 2nd inning the BALLS looked much better putting up 4 runs
with hits strung together by Mueller, Blake, Sebass, Ben and Clue
to bring the game to a tie score of 4-4 heading into the bottom half
when the balls took the field it was a quick 3 up and 3 down for the goodfellas
keeping the game tied at 4 a piece heading into the 3rd.
Beardo got things started off in the 3rd with a lead off walk single
Socal moved him over with a terrible dribbler to the SS.
Than the BALLS turned it on with consecutive singles from
Mueller, Blake, Sebass and Ben and a sacrafice from Clue
followed up by a ripped shot from Bo to put the BALLS up 8-4.
The BALLS let the lead slip away fast by giving up another 5 runs in the 3rd.
heading into the 4th and down a run (9-8) the BALLS were looking to get things going
however, it was quite the opposite. Not able to get anything going the BALLS
were a quick up and down putting up no hits in the inning.
After letting another 2 runs slip through the BALLS were in need of some firepower
heading into the 5th inning down 11-8.
With 2 quick outs put up next to the plate was Clue.
who ripped a triple down the LF line to get things going
followed up immediatley by a smashed single from Bo to bring Clue home.
unfortunately that would be all the BALLS could do for the inning.
The bottom half of the 5th the BALLS would give up another 4 runs
bringing the score to 15-9 through 5 complete innings.
In the 6th the BALLS would start getting things going with
a single rip from Scojo, unfortunately after that the BALLS were 3 up and 3 down.
In the bottom of the 6th the BALLS stepped up their defense and allowed NO HITS
This would round up the 6th inning and head into the 7th where it would be the
BALLS last chance to pull out a come from behind victory
However, much like the rest of the game they just couldnt get the bats on the ball
Excluding a single from Ben the Balls would go down in order and finish the game
with another ugly L. Bringing their current summer record to 1-3.

Come on out this week and cheer on your BALLS as they take on
Beer Drinkers Gone Bad @715pm on Tuesday June the 5th on the usual Field 4.

The Big Dawgs eat BALLS ! !

The Foul Balls played against a new team The Big Dawgs. The Balls were feeling in need of a bounce back W after losing to Buster H. in week #2. The Balls were 1-1 heading into the match and the Big Dawgs were at a perfect record of 2-0. LeonSpinx would be missing the game due to travel. He is in Paradise for 2 weeks getting married to Foul Ball Fan Carisma. Skip and Socal would be making the trip out there the following day to be there for the joyous celebration. For obvious reasons  they would be down Bo as well due to the birth of his beautiful baby boy Chase as discussed last week. Scojo was a game time decision still suffering from his shoulder issue from the previous 2 weeks. Down 2 other BALLS Scojo stepped up and decided to play the game. From the start the BALLS had a hard time getting the bat on the ball. In addition they gave up 6 runs in the 1st inning. Down 6 runs heading into the 2nd inning was a little deflating for the BALLS but they were still optimistic that it was still striking distance. However, it didn't bounce back as they planned. Giving up more runs and not being able to get the ball to drop in is just a mixture for complete failure. The BALLS were only able to get 1 run in during the entire 5 inning game. It was on a Fielders Choice on a ball hit by CLUE. The final score ended up being an ugly 14-1 lose for the BALLS.

Come on out this Tuesday the 29th to see the BALLS take on Goodfellas at 715pm on Field 4.

The Rivalry Continues... Buster H Game #2

As long as you have not been living under a rock the past 2 weeks
you are well aware that the Foul Balls were coming back for week 2 of the
summer league to play against their long time rivals Buster H.
As you have heard recently the Foul Balls got locked out of the Thursday league they
have played in since thier inaugural season due to a large desire for the Thursday time slot.
Appears they were not the only ones who were denied entrance into the league.
Buster H had the same issue and decided to follow THE BALLS to the Tuesday division.
So it would set the stage for the rematch that was to big for Thursday nights.
Both teams heading into the game with a record of 1-0 only 1 team would come out undefeated.
Coming off a nice victory in week 1 THE BALLS were flying high (some of the literally)
and looking to bring the pain against Buster H.

The balls were 11 in total with the absence of Scojo due to a shoulder injury.
Turns out that he played last week with the injury, and seems to have aggrevated it
(Must have been the AWESOME display of hitting he put on in game 1)
As you recall from last week there was doubt surrounding Skip and if he was able to play.
He woke up Wednesday morning and was not even able to lift his arm above his waist.
There was talk around the Foul Balls camp that there was a possibility he would be
shut down for the season. After a trip to the team DR. Skip was advised he has shoulder problems
and that it could be a serious issue.
After giving it a few days and making sure that he took it easy Skip was looking better everyday.
When Tuesday came Skip was feeling like a new man (must be the meds from the DR)
and was ready to get dressed up for the game to complete the 11 man roster.

The BALLS won the coin toss and decided to take the field first, so they were the home team.
With Sebass on the mound the balls took the field with confidence,
a little swagger in their steps, and a lot of alcohol on their breath
The BALLS played great defense on Buster H and had a quick first inning with no runs allowed.
Heading into the bottom of the 1st The Balls were still feeling good from their last offensive game.
Starting things off agan in the Leadoff slot was Sheetser with a stand up double
Than singles by Skip, Clue, Bo and Spinx
After a pair of outs Brian 'Miller' Mueller would drive in the 5th run of the inning with a Double.
After 3 outs the BALLS were looking good, putting up 5 runs against Buster H
and heading into the 2nd inning with a nice little lead.
The BALLS continued to look good in the field
Spinx made a great pop up catch at 3B and Socal caught one in foul
territory right in front of the enemies dugout.
Clue looked outstanding at SS with some serious diving attempts on some plays

Their defense continued to look strong during the early innings.
However, after the 1st inning THE BALLS just couldnt seem to get the bat on the ball
Not able to put up any more runs on the board they would stay at 5 runs the remainder of the game
Buster H started turning it on and driving the ball to the outfield
Dropping in between the Outfielders and the Infielders

"I have been looking for the right mixture, but no amount of Pyrate Rum
seems to be able to put these guys away"  - Sebass

THE BALLS unable to adjust to the onslaught gave up run after run over the 5 innings
proving that work needs to be done.
THE Balls ended up letting the game slip away with a
FINAL SCORE of Buster H (19) - FOUL BALLS  (5)
Bringing THE BALLS record to 1-1 on the season thus far.

"Game 1 + Sober = WIN
Game 2 + Faded = Loss
Game 3 = Somewhere in between"  - Skip

Come on down to Field 4 Tuesday night to see
THE BALLS take on BIG DAWGS @ 615pm
As the continue the quest for Lower D REc Domination !

Scotch goes down smoothly

TUESDAY. Just doesnt have the same feel as a Thursday
Still so early in the week, and not typically a day the
Foul balls care about nearly as much.
That is until May 8th 2012 when Westminster D Rec Softball
Tuesdays would be changed forever.
It would be known as a day of infamy, when the balls take to the field
for the first time any day other than their blessed Thursdays
westminster softball is poppin due mostly to the popularity of the foul balls
So thursdays have become a booked day, if the balls wanted to continue their legacy
they would need to act quick in the waking hour and decide to leave the current league OR
change from thursday nights to tuesday nights.
They had to do what they had to do. so they comitted to bringing their
high quality entertainment to Tuesday night. to start offending a whole new group of people
During the off season the Balls made a few moves.
With the lose of Streets due to prior engagements, they were
looking to add some firepower to the lineup. After skip did some scouting
he narrowed the field down and had 2 candidates that were balls worthy.
First of those being Ben the (nickname TBD) skips new roomy
He has playing experience and works with majority of the balls
Ben seemed eager to join and was able to finalize a contract prior to opening day
For all you die hard balls fans, you will remeber the 2nd addition to the team

Last season the balls were in a tough spot and down a few players for a big game.
friend of the team Scotty Scojo stepped in and played a great game for the balls.
So during spring training he was invited back to camp and showed a big bat
and serious speed on the base path and the balls knew he would be a huge addition to the team. Now with a full roster of 12 the Balls were ready for battle

So the foul balls worked the day away like drones
putting up with the day to day jobs just to make ends meet
wishing that playing lower D rec softball could pay the bills
but since it doesnt > for the moment > we slave the day away
counting the minutes till our shift end and we can get out and let the day begin.
Game days seem to be the slowest day of the week, mostly due to the anticipation
of getting out on the field for another dance.
Also for the pre game festivities at skips house.
this week there would be no pre game ritual with the lose of Beardo and Spinx
due to a concert at red rocks. and Boo taking final preparations for the baby arrival
The balls were down a player and only had 9 for the lineup.
So streets came back and played with the balls to complete the Game 1 Lineup against Team Scotch.

THE BALLS lost the coin toss so they grabbed their bats first.
Sheetser kicked things off in the leadoff spot with a ripped single
a few batters later Scojo ripped a ball to the outfield and ended up
with a base clearing triple to gain 2 RBI's
Next Socal brought him in with a ball ripped up the middle
the bats continued with hits followed by
Ben, Brian 'Miller' Mueller, Sebass and Michael B.
spraying the ball all over the field and making the defense work for their outs.
THE BALLS had an explosive first inning and put up 7 runs and rounded the batting order.
out on the field the balls were looking just as good. skip even made a diving attempt in the infeld
for a short pop up. He came up just short of catching the ball
and seems to have seriosuly injured himself in the process. (pending MRI results)
The balls got out of the first inning without giving up any runs to team Scotch.
the balls continued their fine hitting display in the 3nd inning putting up another 4 runs
with triples from Clue and scojo with his 2nd triple of the game.
In the 4th they put up another 2 runs starting with a triple from Sheets
followed up by Clue with his 2nd INSIDE THE PARK HOMERUN of the game
In the 5th The Balls put the nail in the coffin when they added another 4 runs
bringing their total to 22 runs through 5 innings.
With Stellar defense and great bats the balls pulled out a W in game 1
with a final score of Foul Balls 22   -   Scotch 5
bringing the balls to a 1-0 record.

"big welcome to the newbies, i did hint a lack of alcohol scent,
that is easily rectified for next game though.. that alcohol free
scent may have just been the abscense of Len and Beardo and Bo" - SKIP

"Felt good to get out there and get a win!! I thought Larry had a good catch at 3rd, a line drive. He also took one of the shin, overall strong defense on our part"  - Ben

See you all down there next Tuesday when the balls take on long time rivals
Buster H @ 815pm.

The Balls are back !

Mike Mo's beard is out of control
Van de boogard has a little more swag in his step
Larrys house is filled with beer and guys (insert joke here)
and that aroma everyone loves is coming out of Swannys car
can only mean 1 thing, well I guess 2
March Madness is in full swing & and the Foul Balls are back!
The Foul Balls were set to take the field after what seemed like a year off .
not much change to the squad in the off season
but with the departure of Cody Turner (who?)
there was a slot open to complete the 12 man team
After some serious scouting and a few trips down to Florida for spring training
skip narrowed the field down to 2 candidates
top of that list was an upcoming catcher who played AAA ball
unfortunalty he was drafted by the nationals and will be playing professionally
2nd on the list was an upcoming pitcher from a local team Caught Looking
Sebastian showed poise and control in front of a team that couldnt field a ball to save their lives
with the edition of Sebas on the mound the balls were ready for Thursdays
The scence was set for the most epic return known to
Westminster rec softball. With the first scheduled game to start @ 715
the balls congregated for pre game festivities at skips house

" Our newest member showed up at skips house already toasted but quickly wrangled up
the support of his teammates by passing around a tasty bottle of rum" says Leonspinx

As ususal the balls were missing a player due to travel
this time they would be down Boo as he was out of state,
in addition to that, Swanny was MIA with a prior engangement
both were still with the balls in spirit
It would only be the 2nd time in history the Foul Balls have taken the field, with
someone other than skip at the helm. Last year Swanny had to sub in due to a
groin injury that he suffered while playing soccer (at least he claims)
that game will forever be known as the "dude I ate that brownie" game
Opening day was against a team by the name of the Unknowns and they were just that.
New to the league and had a few brusiers on the team,
the balls knew they were in for a battle of epic proportions
after the coin toss It was determined the balls would be away so they grabbed their bats first
after a quick first inning on both sides the balls bats began to get hot
in the 2nd inning the balls were on fire putting the ball in gaps and outrunning throws to put up
8 runs on the board to take a nice lead.
The fielding was outstanding by the balls both in the outfield as well the infield.
Most notably Streets Garcia with some outstanding plays to keep the ball in the infield and make some big plays.
Balls were flying everywhere with diving catches by Clue in left and diving attempts at first by Socal
their defense stayed strong through the middle innings to keep The Unknowns to only a handful of runs.
In the 6th inning the balls blew it up again, including a base clearing triple from skip, putting some more runs bringing them up to 15 on the board.
Looking to close out the game, The Unknowns attempted a comeback and put the balls under some pressure.
The Unknowns pulled to within 1 run with 2 outs and the tying run on 3rd base.
Skip gave the fans of the other team a little performance when he showed them his flexability with a nice split attemnpting to catch a ball in foul territory. Next the ball was hit off the bat hard and streets made yet another stellar play at SS and made the throw to 1st to end the game.
Giving the balls their first W of the season and making them 1-0
